Incident description

On August 27, 2025, at approximately 2:40 p.m., while transporting goods with a manual pallet truck in a warehouse, an employee noticed smoke and fire coming from under the truck. The employee did not attempt to extinguish the fire, but called the foreman, who immediately went to the scene and extinguished the fire with a fire extinguisher. The cause of the incident was a scanner battery, placed under the cover of the truck in the lower part of the drawbar, which was crushed by the truck's stacking mechanism, leading to damage to its protective layer and ignition.

Incident effects

  1. Physical damage to the battery caused by compression by the trolley mechanism, resulting in an internal short circuit, uncontrolled temperature rise, and fire.
  2. Use of a fire extinguisher to put out the fire.
  3. Threat to the life and health of warehouse users.
  4. Interruption of work, involvement of other people in the rescue operation.

What can you do to avoid an accident?

  1. Do not use the cart as a place to store items. Do not put anything under the cart cover.
  2. Remember, you can only carry the battery that powers your scanner.
  3. Do not keep spare batteries. Store any batteries other than the one in the scanner in a cabinet.
  4. Each time, check your workplace and remove batteries and other items from prohibited areas.
