Here are the rules for providing first aid in case of fainting:
- Lay the person on their back on a flat surface.
- Raise their legs (about 30 cm) – this will help increase blood flow to the brain.
- Then place the person in the recovery position.
- Ensure access to air, e.g., loosen tight clothing such as a tie, belt, or collar.
- Check for consciousness and breathing: gently shake the person or call out to them to see if they regain consciousness.
- Check if the person is breathing. If they are not breathing or are breathing incorrectly, start cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
- Observe the condition of the injured person: if the person has regained consciousness, do not let them get up immediately. Leave them lying down for a few minutes to avoid fainting again.
- Stay with the person until help arrives or until they have fully recovered. Once they feel better, you can help them sit up and slowly get up.
- Provide medical assistance. If the person does not regain consciousness within one minute, call emergency services (emergency number 112 or 999).
- If this is the first time they have fainted, or if the episode is accompanied by chest pain, shortness of breath, or other worrying symptoms, also call for medical assistance.
