Get ready for work—you must wear:

  • antistatic work shirt and pants
  • work shoes with composite toe caps,
  • protective gloves
  • safety goggles
  • hearing protection

Before you start work, remember that you must:

  • Complete health and safety training and on-the-job training,
  • Have additional qualifications, if required (e.g., welder, electrician).
  • Have no health contraindications to performing the work.
  • Be familiar with the operating instructions for the machines and equipment used at your workplace.

During work, the following must be ensured:

  • direct supervision by a designated person,
  • appropriate technical safeguards,
  • on-the-job training specifying:
    • who does what,
    • in what order,
    • what health and safety rules apply.

BEFORE STARTING WORK:

  • Remove all flammable materials from the work area,
  • Move combustible objects or objects in combustible packaging to a safe distance,
  • If they cannot be removed, protect them from sparks and splashes.
  • Check adjacent rooms for materials that could catch fire.
  • Seal openings, cable passages, and pipes with non-flammable material.
  • Protect electrical and gas lines from damage and fire.
  • Prepare metal containers with water for waste (wire, electrodes, metal scraps).
  • Ensure escape routes are clear.
  • Equip the workplace with fire extinguishing equipment.

MANDATORY FIRE SAFETY EQUIPMENT:

The following must be available at the place of work:

  • at least 1 powder fire extinguisher,
  • 1 fire blanket (if no other equipment is required),
  • the equipment must be in good working order and available at all times.

The contractor is responsible for preparing the firefighting equipment!

REMEMBER: – do not perform fire-hazardous work:

  • in rooms where painting work was carried out or flammable substances were used on the same day,
  • if combustible materials have not been removed or secured,
  • without supervision and firefighting equipment,
  • when it is not possible to evacuate the workplace.

HOW TO SECURE BUILDINGS AND INSTALLATIONS:

  • check if there are any flammable structural elements in the workplace,
  • make sure that metal elements being cut/welded do not touch combustible elements,
  • remove or secure insulation, floor coverings, and other flammable materials,
  • protect structural elements from excessive heating and heat spread.

AFTER COMPLETING WORK:

  • Ensure that the workplace is safe.
  • Remove metal waste and welding residues.
  • Check for any sources of fire,
  • Return firefighting equipment to its designated location.

BREAKDOWN OR ACCIDENT?

  • If something breaks down, notify your supervisor immediately.
  • If an accident has occurred, do not move anything and also inform your supervisor.
  • In case of fire hazard: stop work immediately and disconnect the equipment from the power supply.
    • Use the available fire extinguishing equipment.
    • Notify your supervisor and the fire department.
    • If the fire spreads, evacuate along the designated route.
