Get ready for work—you must wear:

  • a work shirt and pants,
  • work shoes with composite toe caps,
  • work gloves,
  • a safety helmet,
  • safety harnesses and shock-absorbing ropes.

Before you start work, you must:

  • Complete health and safety training and on-the-job training
  • Have no health contraindications to performing the work
  • Be familiar with the operating instructions for the machines and equipment used at your workplace.

Before starting work:

  • Obtain permission to perform the work.
  • Keep your workplace tidy.
  • Select the appropriate type of ladder for the type of work to be performed.
  • Familiarize yourself with the ladder's specifications (including load capacity), check its technical condition and the technical condition of fall protection measures.
  • Secure (barriers) and mark (tapes and warning signs).
  • Protect the site from rain and moisture.
  • Plan your work so as to eliminate or limit leaning out of the ladder.
  • Secure the tools you are working with against falling.

During work:

  • Work carefully and cautiously.
  • Be especially careful when working near high-voltage lines.
  • Position the ladder directly towards the place you want to reach.
  • You must place it on a dry surface and secure it against uncontrolled movement.
  • Always move up and down the ladder facing forward and use three points of support.
  • If you are working on a ladder, have someone assist you.
  • When working at a considerable height, attach a safety rope to a fixed anchor point or a fixed structural element above shoulder level.

After finishing work:

  • Check the condition of the ladder.
  • Fold the ladder according to the manufacturer's instructions and store it in a safe place.
  • Clean up the work area so that it does not pose a hazard.

What NOT to do:

  • Use the ladder for purposes other than those for which it is intended.
  • Use a damaged or faulty ladder.
  • Exceed the ladder's maximum load capacity and angle of inclination.
  • Use a ladder to carry loads exceeding 10 kg.
  • Place ladders against closed doors or right next to them.
  • Climb up and down the ladder with your back to it.
  • Carry ladders longer than 4 m on your own.
  • Repair or modify the ladder structure yourself.
  • Work on a ladder closer than 6 m to high-voltage power lines.
  • Move a ladder while standing on its rungs.
  • Use the last three steps of a stepladder.
  • Use the last two steps of a stepladder if it does not have a handrail.
  • Leave an unfolded ladder unattended.
  • Place ladders sideways to the work area.
  • Remove heavy and bulky items from the ladder yourself.
  • Make chaotic movements when climbing, standing, and descending.

Failure or accident:

  • If something breaks, put the damaged tool aside and report the fault to your supervisor.
  • If an accident has occurred, do not move anything and inform your supervisor.
  • In the event of an accident, immediately administer first aid to the injured person and call emergency services if necessary.
