Working with electrical equipment and in switch rooms

 Get ready for work—you must wear:

  • a work shirt and pants,
  • shoes with composite toe caps and electrostatic soles,
  • electrical installation boots (if necessary), 
  • electrical insulation gloves.

Before you start work, remember that you must:

  • Complete health and safety training and on-the-job training.
  • Have valid SEP certification.
  • Have no health contraindications to performing the work.
  • Be familiar with the operating instructions for the machines and equipment used at your workplace. 
  • Be an authorized person. 

Before starting work:  

  • Read the instructions. 
  • Disconnect the equipment from the power supply and secure the switching devices against accidental activation. 
  • Make sure that there is no danger in the workplace after disconnecting the equipment. 
  • Connect grounding devices or install temporary grounding devices in places that you will be able to see while working. 
  • Apply the required safety measures to switched-off devices. 
  • Cover or fence off and mark live parts of machines. 

During work:  

  • Work with extreme caution and prudence. 
  • Use electrical/electronic equipment for its intended purpose. 
  • Make entries in the electrical equipment operating log where required. 
  • Perform maintenance work in accordance with the instructions and using serviceable tools in accordance with their intended use.

After completing work:

  • Confirm completion of work. 
  • Clear the work area by removing technical safety measures. 
  • Prepare the device for operation and notify the coordinator. 
  • After receiving information that the device is ready to start, start it.

What is NOT ALLOWED?  

  • Perform activities without the required qualifications. 
  • Perform activities without the required personal protective equipment. 
  • Use inappropriate fuse inserts or replace them with makeshift ones. 
  • Use damaged sockets and plugs.
  • Overload electrical equipment beyond the permissible value. 
  • Touch live parts. 
  • Leaving workstations unattended. 
  • Granting access to electrical equipment or installations to unauthorized persons.  

Failure or accident?

  • If something breaks down, stop using the device and report the fault to your supervisor.
  • If an accident has occurred, do not touch anything and inform your supervisor.
  • Hang a sign saying "OUT OF SERVICE" on the damaged workstation.
  • In the event of an accident, immediately administer first aid to the injured person and, if necessary, call the emergency services.
