Before you start work, remember that in order to operate a forklift truck, you must:
- Have a UDT qualification certificate,
- Complete health and safety training and on-the-job training,
- Have no health contraindications to performing the work.
- Be familiar with the operating instructions for the machines and equipment used at your workplace.
Before starting the forklift:
- Check the brakes, steering system, lights, horn, wheels, and grabber components.
- Check that the grabber is working properly.
- Confirm the operational status in the forklift inspection log or application.
- Report any faults to your supervisor.
- Ensure that your workplace is safe.

During operation:
- Only start the truck when you are sure it is safe to do so.
- Wear a safety helmet and ensure that other people involved in transporting the load also wear one.
- Pick up the load with extreme caution.
- The load should always be centered in relation to the grab.
- Remember that you cannot transport loads that exceed the standards and lifting capacity limits of the forklift you are using.
- Maintain a safe zone of at least 5 meters around the truck.
- When driving, remember to keep the mast tilted backward.
- Transport the load in accordance with the traffic rules applicable on the premises.
- When loading cargo, make sure that it does not pose any danger.
- Signal each maneuver with the grab with a continuous 2-second signal.
After finishing work:
- Clean the truck and return it to its designated place.
- Lower the grab onto the ground and detach it from the truck.
- Turn off the engine and remove the key or take the access card.
- If you have any comments on the condition of the truck or grab, enter them in the operating log and notify your supervisor.
What is NOT allowed?
- Transport or lift people on the truck.
- Exceed the forklift's load capacity.
- Rotate the load in an area where there may be obstacles.
- Transporting poorly secured goods.
- Grasp the load by pushing it apart.
- Use the grabber in areas where there is a risk of explosion.
- Leaving the forklift with the forks raised, the key, or the access card.
- Leaving the truck on escape routes and intersections.
- Allowing untrained persons to work.
- Using a damaged truck.
- Repair or service the truck yourself.
- Climb onto the forks of the forklift.
- Lean outside the outline of the forklift.
- Eat, talk on the phone, or listen to music while working.
- Operate the forklift under the influence of alcohol or intoxicants.
Breakdown or accident?
- If something breaks down, turn off the forklift engine, secure it against restarting, and report the malfunction to your supervisor.
- If there has been an accident, do not move anything and inform your supervisor.
- Hang a sign on the damaged forklift: "EQUIPMENT UNDER REPAIR – DO NOT START."
