Get ready for work—you must wear:

  • a work shirt and pants, 
  • work shoes with composite toe caps, 
  • work gloves, 
  • safety glasses. 
  • clothing without loose sleeves, straps, or chains.

Before you start work, remember that you must:

  • Complete health and safety training and on-the-job training.
  • Have no health contraindications to performing the work.
  • Be familiar with the operating instructions for the machines and equipment used at your workplace.
  • Work with at least one other person when performing repair and maintenance tasks.

Before starting work:

  • Check the technical condition of the pump and the surroundings of the workstation.
  • Report any damage to your supervisor.
  • Do not touch the pump until you are sure it is turned off.

During work:

  • Observe the level of the substance in the drip tray.  
  • When the liquid reaches the top edge of the grate, start the pump.

Caution: Risk of slipping – exercise caution.

Starting and operating the pump

  • Find the switch on the right side of the device.
  • Hold down the switch to start pumping.
  • Keep it pressed at all times – the pump only works when pressed.
  • After pumping, release the switch – the device will turn off automatically.

After finishing work:

  • Tidy up the work area.
  • Remove wet stains with sorbent.
  • Dispose of the collected sorbent in a container for used sorbent.
  • Make sure that the workplace is clean and free of slippery surfaces.

What should you NOT do?

  • work on a damaged pump,
  • remove protective covers during operation,
  • touch a hot pump (> 80°C),
  • work on a pump under pressure,
  • exceed the permissible temperatures, pressures, and speeds,
  • stand on the pump or pipes,
  • put your hands into the openings of the device,
  • start the pump with the wrong direction of rotation,
  • make modifications or repairs on your own,
  • use the pump for purposes other than those for which it is intended.

Failure or accident?

  • If something breaks down, turn off the device, secure it against restarting, and report the fault to your supervisor.
  • If an accident has occurred, do not touch anything and inform your supervisor.
  • In the event of an accident, immediately administer first aid to the injured person and call emergency services if necessary. 
  • Hang a sign on the damaged device saying: "DEVICE UNDER REPAIR – DO NOT USE."
  • In case of a malfunction or leak:
    • Disconnect the power supply.
    • Notify the appropriate person.
    • Always intervene with at least 2 people.
